Join singer, teacher and sound guide Davin Youngs for this playful deep dive into the ancient tradition of singing in community. Using the structure of circle songs, you will be expertly guided into the personal practice of improvised singing and taught how to quickly draw groups together in spontaneous song.
Circle songs is a format for improvised singing that has been championed by artists like Bobby McFerrin and Rhiannon and is currently practiced by Chicago Circle Singing community. In a circle song, a leader or leaders spontaneously compose rhythmic and melodic patterns to be repeated by singers standing in a circle. What emerges is a magical orchestra of voices that often transcends the boundaries of language, skill and style.
During Inside The Circle, you will learn to:
* Efficiently and effectively create and lead groups in improvised singing circles
* Playfully use improvised singing to move beyond inhibition and fear within your own voice
* Explore singing without lyrics and develop your personal language as a tool for improvisation
* Embody your voice as an instrument to carry both rhythm and melody to lead others
**Some public singing experience is encouraged. No improvised singing experience is necessary, but a desire to sing by yourself and lead others is required.
